The Shreveport Police Department is warning the public about scams involving fake warrants.

The federal government will never email someone a warrant, and neither will the Shreveport Police Department. Warrants are not delivered through emails resembling coupons, shipping confirmations or extended car warranty offers.

If someone claims to be law enforcement, the department advises people to ask to speak with the officer’s supervisor or hang up and contact the law enforcement agency directly using a verified phone number.

The department also advises people to never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency or personal information to “clear up” a warrant.

The department noted that if a uniformed police officer is standing directly in front of someone giving lawful commands, people should comply.
