SPD officers stable following possible fentanyl exposure

Two Shreveport Police officers were transported for medical evaluation Wednesday, Feb. 11, following a possible fentanyl exposure while serving an arrest warrant.

According to authorities, officers were executing a warrant in the 2000 block of Grimmett Drive at a local apartment complex when they came into contact with a suspected substance believed to be fentanyl.

One officer immediately began showing signs consistent with possible fentanyl exposure and was administered Narcan by a fellow officer at the scene. A short time later, a second officer also began exhibiting symptoms. Both officers were transported to a local medical facility for observation.

Police officials reported that both officers are doing well and remain in good spirits.

The department extended thanks to the Shreveport Fire Department for its rapid response and assistance during the incident.

Shreveport Police Narcotics and HazMat units also responded and are continuing efforts to ensure the area is safe. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
