A Shreveport man pleaded guilty Friday, November 7, 2025, in Caddo District Court to attempted armed robbery in connection with a 2023 shooting incident.
Zechariah Carl Stutts, 21, changed his plea to guilty-as-charged after a 12-person jury was selected and sworn before District Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr. Stutts is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on December 9, where he faces up to 49.5 years at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
The case stemmed from a February 9, 2023, incident in which Stutts confronted a man outside a Family Dollar store, brandished a firearm, and demanded the victim’s car keys. When the victim attempted to flee toward the store for safety, Stutts opened fire, striking him once in the backside before continuing to shoot and then fleeing the scene. He was apprehended shortly afterward by police.
Assistant District Attorneys Ashlin Thomas and Chase Burgess prosecuted the case, and the Caddo Parish Public Defender’s Office represented Stutts. The case was filed under docket number 393798.
