Art in the Park returns Saturday with more artists, music, family fun

Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation will host Art in the Park on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 12-4 p.m. at Richard Fleming Park, located at 7919 West Lakeshore Drive. This free, family-friendly celebration of art and nature is expanding this year, featuring more artists, vendors, and activities than ever before.

Visitors can explore the work of more than 50 local and regional artists who draw inspiration from nature—depicting it in their art or using natural materials as their medium. A variety of art will be available for purchase, including paintings, photography, stone tools, and pottery. Guests can also watch live art demonstrations in flintknapping, pottery throwing, pine-needle basket weaving, painting, and needle-felting.

Local organizations such as Shreve Memorial Library, Sci-Port Discovery Center, Shreveport Aquarium, La La La Sing, Volunteer Naturalists of Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park, Red River National Wildlife Refuge, and Shreveport Regional Arts Council will lead interactive art and nature activities for all ages. Park Naturalist Hulya Onel will also offer her popular painting workshops for older youth and adults.

Live music will set the tone throughout the afternoon with performances by Twang Darkly from noon to 1:30 p.m., Peregrine (formerly Benedetto) from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., and QMajor with Native to the Parish from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Food vendors will include The Hot Dawg Hut, Oki Eatz, Critter’s Corral, and Sneaux Mobile Express.

Admission and all activities are free and open to the public.
