The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers rolled to two wins under new basketball coach Jeff Moore, following a 105–78 victory at home over Centenary College’s junior varsity on Monday with a 96-58 romp over the Louisiana Christian JV team Tuesday night.
The Cavaliers reflected Moore’s up-tempo style and team-oriented approach. The new Cavaliers’ leader came from the LSU basketball staff, where he was recruiting coordinator following a long stint as associate head coach under the founding father of the BPCC program, Mike McConathy, at Northwestern State.
Tuesday night’s victory featured five Cavaliers in double figures: true freshman Drew Cooper with 18, 13 from classmate Tony Montgomery, 11 apiece from sophomore Yoav Botzer and true freshman Dustin Welch, and 10 from true freshman Drin Tafilaj. Montgomery contributed 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals while hitting three 3-pointers. Cooper sank 7 of 9 shots and also had 5 rebounds to share the team lead.
Monday night, true freshman Zequan “Z” Lewis led all scorers with 24 points, along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, setting the tone offensively. Montgomery came close to a triple-double, recording 22 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals in a dynamic all-around performance.
True freshman Drew Cooper contributed 19 points on an efficient 70 percent shooting, adding 6 rebounds, while sophomore Mazin Lumori knocked down three of five from beyond the arc for 11 points.
“This was a total team effort,” Moore said after the opening victory. “Every player contributed, every possession mattered, and that’s exactly the way we’re going to approach every game this season. This win is just the beginning of what we’re building here, and I couldn’t be prouder of this team.”
