Fall sports wind down just as basketball season begins for Centenary.
The crossover season is here, and so are two home events this weekend – the women’s basketball season tips off in the Gold Dome Friday night, and the football regular season wraps up next door Saturday evening at Atkins Field.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Ladies begin their regular season on Friday at 6 against East Texas Baptist in the Gold Dome.
Centenary, picked to finish 12th in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference this season in the coaches’ preseason poll, is set to play 25 regular-season games. The Ladies’ first-year head coach is Rennie Bailey, a Minden native and former Louisiana Tech player who has 30 years of coaching experience, most at the college level in the men’s game.
The Ladies will face Jarvis Christian at home next Monday at 6 and then hit the road for a pair of non-conference contests against Mississippi University for Women on Nov. 13 and Millsaps College on Nov. 14.
FOOTBALL: The Gents (1-6, 1-3 SCAC) will finish their regular season Saturday at home against Austin College in a conference contest set for 6 o’clock at Atkins Field. Centenary will honor its senior class and the cheer team seniors in a pregame ceremony.
Following the regular-season finale, the Gents will head to Little Rock Nov. 15. The SCAC is featuring a new and exciting format for determining its league champion this season as all six schools (Austin College, Centenary, Hendrix, Lyon, McMurry, and TLU) will meet for championship weekend held at War Memorial Stadium.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: The Gents will begin their regular season against the home team on Friday at 6 in the Berry College Tournament in Mount Berry, Ga., then face Pfeiffer University on Saturday at noon in their second game of the weekend.
Centenary is set to play 25 regular-season games under the leadership of first-year head coach J.A. Anglin, a Shreveport native who played at Northwestern State and LSUS, and for the past five years was coach at Bossier Parish Community College.
The Gents’ first home game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14 against East Texas Baptist and their first conference contest is nearby in Longview, Texas, Tuesday, Dec. 2 at LeTourneau.
VOLLEYBALL: Centenary fell 3-0 to the Austin College ‘Roos in a conference match on Tuesday night inside the Gold Dome.
The Ladies (3-21, 2-13 SCAC) dropped to 3-5 at home this season. The ‘Roos improved to 17-10 overall and 10-4 in league play with the win and are now 3-5 on the road.
The Ladies will finish their season Saturday at home, playing two versus Rhodes College (9 a.m.) and LeTourneau (1 p.m.).
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: The Gents finished 11th in the 2025 SCAC Championship last Saturday in Prairie View, Texas. Freshman Zack Wroten from Benton had the Gents’ top finish as he ran a time of 30.54.30 to finish 88th.
SOCCER: The Ladies and Gents finished their seasons on Saturday in Houston as both suffered conference losses to the University of St. Thomas. The Ladies were blanked 3-0 and the Gents fell 4-2.
The Ladies finished the season with a 1-14-3 overall record and an 0-8-2 mark in conference play while the Gents finished at 7-9-2 overall and 5-6 in SCAC play.
SWIMMING: Centenary’s teams recorded a combined victory over the University of the Ozarks by a score of 219-125 in a conference dual meet on Saturday at home.
The Ladies and Gents will next compete in the “Mid-Season Invitational” hosted by Hendrix College on Nov. 21-23 in Conway, Ark.
The exciting day featuring three games – the No. 5 versus the No. 6 seed (10 a.m.), the No. 3 seed versus the No. 4 seed (3 p.m.), and the top two seeds playing each other at 8 o’clock.
