Shreveport Police officers responded to a serious two-vehicle collision on LA 3132 Eastbound, directly beneath Interstate 49 on Saturday, Aug. 2, at approximately 4:43am.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a Jeep Gladiator was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes
when it collided head-on with a Ford F-250. The force of the impact sheared off the driver’s side of the Ford and caused the Jeep to roll onto its side and catch fire.
A Shreveport Police Sergeant was first to arrive at the scene. He observed the driver of the Jeep waving for help and found a female passenger partially hanging out of the burning vehicle. The officer was able to assist her out of the wreckage before checking the Ford F-250, where he discovered the driver unresponsive.
Shreveport Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after, extricated the driver of the Ford, and immediately began CPR. All three individuals involved in the crash were transported by ambulance to Ochsner LSU Medical Center.
Tragically, the driver of the Ford was pronounced deceased upon arrival. The passenger from the Jeep
sustained multiple broken bones and remains hospitalized.
Due to the severity of the crash, the Shreveport Police Crash Investigations Unit responded to the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that the Jeep was traveling in the wrong direction and the driver showed signs of impairment. The SPD DWI Unit obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, which has been collected and will be submitted to the crime lab for toxicological analysis.
The crash scene was documented with photographs and marked evidence, and both vehicles were
impounded.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as Joshua Cochran, has been charged with Vehicular Homicide and First
Degree Vehicular Negligent Injury. He remains hospitalized and will be booked into the Shreveport City Jail upon release.
This incident remains under investigation by the Shreveport Police Crash Investigations Unit.
