Shreveport Police warn that fleeing from law enforcement will end in jail

The Shreveport Police Department is committed to educating the public about the dangers and consequences of failing to comply with lawful traffic stops. Fleeing from police is not only reckless—it is a felony offense that puts lives at risk. Unfortunately, several individuals learned this the hard way over the weekend.

On June 1, officers attempted to stop James Wheatley, who instead chose to flee. He led police on a pursuit and was ultimately arrested. Wheatley now faces charges of Flight from an Officer, Hit and Run, Reckless Operation of a Vehicle, and DWI (Second Offense). Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in this dangerous and avoidable incident.

On May 30, Romeil Small was arrested after fleeing from officers. His actions resulted in damage to private property, and he is now facing charges of Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Aggravated Criminal Property Damage, and Resisting an Officer. Once again, it is only by luck that no one was seriously hurt during this careless act.

On June 1, Jacoby Lee also attempted to evade a traffic stop, resulting in his arrest. He has been charged
with Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Reckless Operation, and No Insurance.

These actions are not just illegal—they are incredibly dangerous and put the lives of innocent people at risk. The Shreveport Police Department will not tolerate this behavior and will continue to work diligently to keep the streets safe.

SPD urges the public to comply with all lawful orders from law enforcement. Fleeing will never end well—and can quickly turn a minor issue into a life-changing felony arrest.
