Shreveport selects site for Southeast Police Substation

Mayor Tom Arceneaux announced that the site for the Shreveport Police Department’s substation in Southeast Shreveport has been selected. The substation will be built at the corner of West 70th Street and St. Vincent Avenue, on a portion of the Cedar Grove Park property.

“We have been trying to find the best site for the Southeast substation for more than a year,” said Mayor Tom Arceneaux. He credited District “D” Councilman Grayson Boucher for suggesting the Cedar Grove Park site. “Councilman Boucher has been very involved in the search for land for the Southeast substation. I think his idea is the best possible solution we could have.”

“From the very beginning, selecting substation locations has been a process we approached with the utmost care and responsibility,” said Police Chief Wayne Smith. “This is a historic decision—one that demands thoughtful consideration of what’s best for our citizens not just financially, but also from a sociological and public safety standpoint. We’re incredibly grateful for the strong support we’ve received from our council, and we truly believe this location will stand the test of time as a smart and community-focused choice.”

The Cedar Grove Park site already houses a transfer site for SporTran. Plans call for retaining the existing playground equipment in the park and, if possible, keeping the existing ball field by relocating it slightly.

Because the new substation will be very similar to those being built in West Shreveport and on North Market Street, design time will be reduced. Plans are to receive bids on the Cedar Grove substation later this year and to occupy it before the summer of 2026.
