SPD Violent Crimes detectives LaThomas Barnes (DOB: 10/15/91) on Jan. 9 on a warrant for 2nd Degree Battery in connection to a brutal assault that occurred on Aug. 23, 2024.

At around 12:05am on the date in question, SPD patrol officers responded to Willis-Knighton South in reference to an assault and battery report. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim in the emergency room, who stated he had been involved in a physical altercation with Barnes at 6413 Oak Valley.

The victim sustained multiple serious injuries including: 

• A burst capillary in his left eye
• A fractured nose
• A torn right bicep requiring surgery
• A torn left knee that will require two additional surgeries

Medical professions advised that the victim has sustained permanent damage to his right knee, resulting in long-term issues with mobility.

Following an extensive investigation, the warrant for 2nd Degree Battery was obtained for Barnes. He was arrested on Jan. 9 without incident.
