Centenary’s Gents have opened their 2025 basketball campaign with a pair of 30-point games from players hoping to rekindle last season’s magic.
Tuesday night, junior guard Quentin Beverly poured in 32 in a hard-fought non-conference loss at the Gold Dome. Last Saturday, senior guard Chris Collier fired in 31 in a thriller on the road at University of the Ozarks, leading Centenary to a 69-68 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win.
Centenary returns to SCAC play this weekend at home with doubleheaders against Austin College on Saturday and the University of Dallas on Sunday. Both men’s games tip at 2 o’clock following the Ladies’ games at noon.
The Gents won last year’s SCAC Tournament and played in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: The Gents fell 98-87 to the LeTourneau YellowJackets in an offensive battle on Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest inside the Gold Dome.
Tuesday night Beverly scored a career-high 32 points for the Gents (3-8) but it was not enough to overcome the YellowJackets (12-3).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Ladies return to action on Saturday at home as they will face the Austin College ‘Roos in the first of four consecutive games at the Gold Dome.
GYMNASTICS: Centenary opens its 2025 season on Sunday as a very special and exciting season begins with the Ladies taking on the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers in a Midwest Independent Conference Championship meet at 2 p.m. inside Kitty Magee Arena in Denton.
The Ladies will host four home meets this season, with their home opener set for Monday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. against SEMO and Westchester. Their other home meets are on Friday, Jan. 31 against Greeneville University (6 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 22 against TWU at 4 p.m., and finally on Saturday, March 8 against Fisk University on Senior Night at 5 p.m. The Feb. 22 meet will also be the annual Sylvia Keiter Memorial Meet and the alumnae meet. The Ladies will compete in four road meets during the regular season.
Centenary will also serve as host for both the annual MIC Championships and the USAG Collegiate Nationals April 11-13 inside the Gold Dome.
