Taj Anderson poured in 28 points Tuesday night to lead a hot-shooting LSUS men’s basketball team to an 80-70 win over visiting Jarvis Christian, completing a Red River Athletic Conference sweep for the home teams at The Dock.

The LSUS teams are home again Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Texas A&M-Texarkana.

Tuesday night, the Pilots (10-7, 7-6) avenged their November 16 loss to the Bulldogs (5-9, 2-6) as Anderson sank 10 of 14 shots, including 3 of 5 on 3-pointers. LSUS sank 52 percent overall, including 64 percent behind the arc (7-11).

Melvion Flanagan followed Anderson with 13 points and five assists, while Meikkel Murray contributed 11 points and six rebounds.  Tyler Washington pulled down down a game-high 10 rebounds.

LSUS outscored the Bulldogs 36-22 in the paint and capitalized on turnovers, turning them into 20 points compared to 14 for Jarvis Christian. The Pilots also dominated the fast break, scoring 23 points to the Bulldogs’ 14.

LSUS WOMEN 90, JARVIS CHRISTIAN 49: Led by 21 points and 10 rebounds by Paula Gonzales Herrero, the Pilots, now 13-3 overall and 12-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference, maintained their second-place league standing, one game behind unbeaten Xavier and two games ahead of third-place Texas A&M-San Antonio.

Vicky Parra delivered a well-rounded performance, contributing 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  Fatima Katembo was a force on both ends of the floor, adding 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Helana Galunic chipped in 10 points, five steals, and three rebounds.  Alexis Brown contributed a team-high five assists.

LSUS sank 50.8 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 75 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, the Pilots dominated by holding JCU to just 27.4 percent shooting in building a 21-7 first-quarter lead and a 50-24 halftime advantage.
