Captain Shreve won District 1-5A, Northwood 1-4A and Calvary 1-2A with district clinching wins Friday and Saturday and the LHSAA baseball regular season comes to an end today with a final slate of games.
The Gators clinched their first 1-5A title since 2018 with their 5-3 defeat of Airline Saturday. Shreve finished the regular season 26-8 with its eighth consecutive district 1-5A game win Sunday, a 10-0 run-rule romp at home against Airline to finish 12-2 in the district.
Parkway (21-8, 10-4) finished in second with Benton (24-9, 9-4) playing Haughton (21-10, 6-7) at home in a final district game with a chance at tying the Panthers for second. The Tigers had won or tied for a district championship in each of their previous 10 seasons, the last three in 1-5A.
Northwood scored an 8-0 defeat of Evangel Friday night to clinch the 1-4A district title for the third straight season, but the first one first outright after sharing with North DeSoto the previous two years. Jack Carlisle tossed a three-hit shutout and Hayden Phipps was 3-for-3 with a double. Tucker McCabe was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Isaias Saucedo went 2-for-3 for the Falcons (24-6, 7-0).
Calvary (22-10, 10-2) completed a three-game sweep of Loyola Friday with a 13-3 win to clinch the 1-2A title for the second consecutive year. It is the Cavaliers’ 10th title in the last 11 seasons. Hutch Grace doubled and homered and drove in five runs, Landon Smith had a bases-clearing double to highlight a four-run second inning and Brady Martinez had two doubles. Hayden Horton led Loyola (14-17, 8-4) with a 2-for-3 day that included a double and two RBI.
