Three Select schools, Captain Shreve, Caddo Magnet and Evangel scored first-round wins over the weekend in the LHSAA softball playoffs to move on to second-round road games to be played on Tuesday.
Calvary, the top-ranked team in Select Division III, had a first-round bye and will host No. 17 Beekman Charter, who defeated Loyola 11-0 in six innings.
In Division I, Captain Shreve (21-9) scored a 16-0 run-rule win over Scotlandville in three innings. Nora Falcon had a single and double and drove in two runs, Anna Grace Steir (2-for-2), Addison Smith (2-for-2) all had multiple hits. Meagan Hill and Aubry Townsend added doubles and Ella Hendrick didn’t allow a baserunner in the three innings while striking out eight. Shreve, the nine seed, will travel to Alexandria to play ASH, the eight seed.
In another Division I game, Caddo Magnet (13-11) used an eight-run fifth inning to defeat Byrd 17-9. Landry McLamb drove in seven runs with three extra-base hits to lead the Mustangs. She had a bases-clearing triple in the second inning and a pair of doubles that drove in runs. Her two-run double was the big blow in the big fifth inning.
Ansleigh Strickland led the Mustangs with four hits that included a double, Grace Chaisson doubled and homered Mary Lamb was 3-for-5 with a double and Jordan Reid was 2-for-5 with a double. No. 14 Magnet will also travel to Alexandria to face No. 3 Tioga.
In Division II, Evangel (9-23) only needed three innings to dispose of Washington-Marion 16-1.Brooklyn Horton drove in four runs on three hits, Kaydence Chreene was 3-for-4 with a double and Lena Gordon was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. The 11 seed Lady Eagles are on the road to face No. 6 Academy of Our Lady.
