In a joint effort to combat impaired driving, the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police Troop G recently conducted a sobriety checkpoint in Haughton. The operation, which took place on Saturday, February 10th, saw deputies and troopers combining forces to screen 828 vehicles and interact with 1,105 individuals.
During the checkpoint, law enforcement issued two citations for various violations and administered 13 field sobriety tests, resulting in two DWI arrests. Additionally, one individual was arrested for drug possession.
Sheriff Whittington emphasized the importance of such checkpoints in raising public awareness and reducing alcohol-related crashes. He highlighted the meticulous planning and coordination involved in these operations, which aim to remove impaired drivers from the roads and ensure safety for all.
The successful execution of the checkpoint underscores the public’s understanding of the dangers of impaired driving. Out of over a thousand individuals contacted, only two were arrested for impairment, demonstrating the effectiveness of these initiatives in keeping Bossier Parish roads safe.
This checkpoint was made possible through a grant awarded to the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. The public is urged to report suspected impaired drivers at any time by dialing 911 or contacting the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office directly.
The collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies serves as a proactive measure in enhancing road safety and preventing potentially tragic incidents caused by impaired driving.
