Captain Shreve boys move into first place in 1-5A with win

Captain Shreve moved into first place in District 1-5A with a slim 47-46 defeat of Airline at The Swamp.

The Gators (16-4, 5-0) had to hold on after taking a 31-21 lead into the final period.

Kyron Reed led all scorers for Shreve with 12 points, getting six of those points at the free throw line in six attempts. Overall the Gators hit on 11-15 from the charity stripe. Davieon Coleman was the only other Gator in double digits with 10 points. Guy Hargon had Shreve’s only 3-pointers with a pair in scoring six.

Airline (9-7, 3-2) got 11 points from both Bryson Broom and Cam Walker. The Vikes were 3-of-5 from the line and hit on six 3-point goals, with Colby Oglee converting on three of those for his 9 points.

BENTON 52, HAUGHTON 42: Greg Manning scored 15 points and handed out 4 assists for the Tigers who improved to 9-16 overall and 3-3 in District 1-5A. Jalen Taylor netted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Haughton fell to 12-9 overall and 0-5 in 1-5A.

BYRD 55, PARKWAY 45: At Byrd, the Yellow Jackets picked up their second District 1-5A win in five tries and improved to 10-8 overall. Parkway remains winless in 1-5A at 0-5 and falls to 5-12 overall.

WOODLAWN 55, BOOKER T. WASHINGTON 53: The host Knights held on for a big District 1-4A win to move to 18-5 overall and 3-1 in 1-4A. The Lions (15-7, 3-2) got 17 from JaCobee Jackson and Nick Dyer added 16.

HUNTINGTON 74, MINDEN 42: The Raiders picked up the road win to improve to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in District 1-4A. Minden fell to 3-18 overall and 0-3 in 1-4A.

LOYOLA 75, NORTH WEBSTER 53: John Carmody had a career-high 26 points, including three 3-pointers, and freshman Cage Van Norman added 13 as the Flyers picked up the district win to improve to 9-12 overall and 2-1 in District 1-3A.

CALVARY 77, ARCADIA 53: At Calvary, the Cavs improved to 10-7, 1-0 in District 1-A as LaBree Williams paved the way with 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked 6 shots. Martin McDowell tallied 18 points, dished out 3 assists and took in 6 rebounds. Ronald Strong and Kolby Thomas both added 10 points. Arcadia dropped to 4-13 overall and 0-1.
