There’s no hotter team in Shreveport-Bossier going into Week 9 than the Northwood Falcons.

It’s not that they’ve won the last three games, but how they’ve won – convincingly. Northwood has averaged 52 points in those victories, winning by 32, 35 and 30 points.

That’s squared the overall record at 4-4, and has the Falcons 3-1 in District 1-4A heading into tonight’s visit to Independence Stadium to play Southwood (1-7, 1-4).

Northwood has soared forward 13 places in the LHSAA’s power points system, going from outside the playoff field of 28 in Non-Select Division II up to 19th, and within reach of a top 16 seed that would earn a first-round home game.

A resilient defense and a powerful offensive line have been the hallmarks of the Falcons’ resurgence. Running backs Justin Dupree (644 yards, 10 touchdowns) and Caden Stewart (483 yards, six scores) quarterback Peyton Boone (577 yards, seven TDs) have provided most of the production for coach Austin Brown’s running game.

Southwood wraps up its 1-4A schedule tonight.

Other games involving local teams are Friday night.
