Haughton’s rise in rankings will be tested Friday; Calvary is still the (No.) 1

JOURNAL SPORTS

What’s the pecking order atop District 1-5A? There are three teams unbeaten in district games.

This week’s Shreveport-Bossier Journal Top 10 poll rankings give Haughton the edge with Airline and Evangel right behind. The Bucs took second from Evangel in poll voting.

The question will get more definition this Friday night when Haughton visits Airline to highlight the Week 8 schedule of games played locally.

But it’s Class 2A power Calvary that remains the unanimous No. 1 team, and it’s the Cavaliers who have the most intriguing game this week – a visit to state Class 4A power Archbishop Shaw in New Orleans.

Green Oaks enjoyed an open date trip to watch Ole Miss mangle visiting Missouri Saturday, courtesy of appreciative alumni proud of the Giants’ 6-0 mark. They remain fifth in the SBJ Top 10.

Parkway handled Benton and took over sole possession of the No. 6 slot. Loyola, idled by Carroll’s forfeit, lost a point in SBJ poll voting and slipped into a seventh-place tie with Captain Shreve, now on a two-game win streak.

Northwood’s second consecutive overpowering win over a District 1-4A contender (Minden, after a blowout of Booker T. Washington a week earlier) had the Falcons flip spots with BTW, going into ninth while the Lions slipped to 10th after a close win at Bossier.

Five veteran sports media members who cover local high school football rank their top 10 teams each week. Rankings started after Week 1 and continue through the end of the regular season.
