The beat went on for Evangel, Calvary and Green Oaks Friday night while the postgame scene was decidedly different for Plain Dealing and Southwood.
The Eagles, Cavaliers and Giants rolled to 6-0 with district wins. For Calvary, it was their 71st consecutive league victory. Green Oaks is 6-0 for the first time in 38 seasons.
Evangel won its fourth straight behind a routinely spectacular performance by senior quarterback Peyton “Pop” Houston, who accounted for all but one of the Eagles’ touchdowns, throwing for four and running for four more. The LSU commit topped the 100-TD career passing mark with scoring strikes to Zarico Wyandon ending Evangel’s first three series.
Plain Dealing had the most noteworthy victory, ending its 49-game skid and getting off the top of the state’s longest losing streak list. The Lions blanked a Pine Prairie team that scored 42 points a week ago.
Southwood notched its first win of 2026, denying Woodlawn the same pleasure.
An interception salted away the Cowboys’ victory over a Woodlawn team that nearly handed Minden its first loss last week. Southwood had to overcome two second-half deficits, getting the winning score on a Roger Moore fourth-quarter run.
It was the first victory in 10 games for Southwood, since a 36-22 triumph last year over the Knights.
