This week’s Shreveport-Bossier Journal Top 10 poll rankings reflect the topsy-turvy results past the obvious top four local squads.
Calvary, Evangel, Haughton and Airline were all unanimous in the top four spots. The Cavaliers and Bucs are unbeaten, Airline has one loss, and Evangel has four straight dominant wins after dropping its first two to West Monroe and Neville in competitive contests.
Another unbeaten, Green Oaks, rose from seventh to fifth after predictably going 6-0 for the first time since 1988 after dispatching winless Magnolia School of Excellence.
In Week 2, Parkway rallied late to beat Loyola 42-41. Now both teams have dropped their last two and voters see no difference, tying them for the sixth spot.
Captain Shreve’s epic second-half comeback to edge Parkway moved the hard-to-forecast Gators into eighth. Booker T. Washington’s four wins, including an impressive outing at Benton, kept the Lions ahead of Northwood despite the Falcons rolling over BTW Thursday night in a District 1-4A surprise.
The Falcons were coming off two losses, to Loyola and North DeSoto, but looked formidable pounding away last week and reappeared in the rankings.
Five veteran sports media members who cover local high school football rank their top 10 teams each week. Rankings started after Week 1 and continue through the end of the regular season.
