Louisiana Tech prevailed in a full-throttle battle with Army Saturday night that paled in comparison to Grambling’s wild win four miles to the west, while Centenary broke through on the road and Northwestern State didn’t in area college football.
LOUISIANA TECH 31, ARMY 29: The Bulldogs (2-2) piled up 503 yards of total offense, 244 on the ground and 259 through the air, while averaging 8.8 yards per play. Army (2-2) had 421 yards, but never led in a rematch of the 2024 Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl that the Black Knights dominated.
Army pulled within two on Cale Hellums’ 6-yard touchdown pass to Parker Poloskey with 1:07 remaining, but Louisiana Tech secured the ensuing onside kick attempt and ran out the remaining time.
Running back Dylone Brooks powered the Tech offense with a career night, rushing for 119 yards on seven carries while adding 81 receiving yards on two catches to finish with exactly 200 all-purpose yards. He became the first Bulldog to eclipse 200 all-purpose yards in a game since 2023.
GRAMBLING 63, ALCORN STATE 59: The Tigers rallied from a 17-point deficit with 10:18 remaining, scoring 28 points in the final stanza Saturday to take a wild Southwestern Athletic Conference showdown at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium.
In a game that featured four lead changes and a combined 1,165 total yards, Tigers’ quarterback Ashton Frye arched a pass to the right corner of the end zone that Tyson George hauled in for the go-ahead 11-yard score with 19 seconds remaining.
Grambling (3-2, 1-1) threw for 370 yards, 203 by Frye, who threw two TD passes and ran for two more scores. Jacobe Robinson tossed two touchdown passes and completed 13 of 17 throws.
Alcorn (3-3, 2-1) collected 411 passing yards.
CENTENARY 37, AUSTIN COLLEGE 13: In Sherman, Texas, in the first of two meetings between the teams over the next three weeks, the Gents notched their first win in four games this season.
Centenary got 146 rushing yards from Hunter Edwards and 102 receiving yards by Asante Williams. The Gents scored 17 in both the first and fourth quarters against the Kangaroos (1-4) and gave up only 202 total yards.
LAMAR 42, NORTHWESTERN STATE 14: In Beaumont, Texas, the Demons scored on their opening drive, a 75-yard march over 13 plays, but could not slow down 13th-ranked Lamar as the Cardinals (4-1, 2-0 Southland Conference) raced to a 35-7 halftime lead.
Northwestern (0-6, 0-3) ran 46 first-half plays and held possession for 22 minutes, but managed only the lone TD while the Demons’ defense had no answers for an offense that posted 480 yards, 250 rushing.
