It took a while for Millsaps to get going, but scoring two touchdowns in the final 48 seconds of the first half Saturday night at Centenary’s Atkins Field turned a close game into a rout.
Millsaps tripled its lead at the half on the way to a 57-0 victory in Centenary’s official season debut. The Majors (2-0) scored four fourth-quarter TDs and outgained Centenary 443-125.
TJ Ranson and Marc Canzoneri led the Gents with eight tackles apiece while Bryan Washignton and Devon Strickland, a senior linebacker from Byrd, were next with five each.
Former Captain Shreve standout Zane Wyss averaged 46 yards on eight punts. No Centenary offensive player accounted for more than 32 yards rushing or passing.
The Gents suffered four turnovers and were penalized 10 times.
Centenary goes to East Texas Baptist (1-1) in Marshall Saturday night. The Tigers beat Lyon 58-7 in their season opener, then lost 45-44 last Saturday at Belhaven.
ETBU won last year at Centenary, 50-33.
