Shreveport Police Department welcomes newest auxiliary officers

The Shreveport Police Department welcomed its newest graduates of the Auxiliary Officer Program Thursday night.

The volunteers completed extensive training and will serve alongside police officers during Mardi Gras parades, football games, special events and other operations throughout the community.

Chief Wayne Smith welcomed the graduates. Mayor Tom Arceneaux also joined the department in welcoming them, while Councilman Jim Taliaferro served as guest speaker and discussed the integrity, commitment and character required for the role.

The department said its auxiliary officers volunteer their time because they believe in serving Shreveport.
