I have to admit, when I looked at the menu for Back in the Saddle Grill and Bar, 5510 Airline Drive, Bossier City, I was confused. It was full of fried fish and seafood. It didn’t match the name.
I found out why when I sat down at the Saddle and was handed a menu. I had inadvertently screen shot the wrong menu! This disappointed my daughter, who was looking forward to some fried catfish. We will have to go to such a place in the next week or two.
The burger, sandwiches and comfort food-heavy menu matched the restaurant name perfectly. Our server mentioned they also have a food truck.
It was lunchtime and with the weather being so hot, plus the fact we weren’t headed home afterwards, we did not order a ton of food. In the past few months, I have grown to love Boudin Eggrolls, so I did start with an order of theirs. The Eggrolls did not disappoint; they were fried perfectly and full of flavor. I’ll always order these when I’m back in the Saddle.
For lunch I ordered the Brisket Mac and Cheese, partly because the menu said it was freshly made. After the first bite, I knew that the Mac and Cheese was freshly made. The brisket had good flavor and turned this simple dish into a satisfying meal.
My daughter went with the Grilled Cheese with Chopped Brisket and regular fries. She felt the same way about the brisket adding a nice satisfying element to a sandwich we all grew up having.
My son-in-law went with the Old Fashion Burger, but upgraded by adding an over-easy egg. I’ve seen eggs being added to burgers and hot sandwiches on the Food Channel, but I’d never ordered it. I still haven’t! My SIL said the burger was nice and juicy, with a lot of good flavor. As he ate the burger, the yoke broke and added a nice new element to the meal. Now I will have to try this soon.
He ordered Cajun Fries with his meal. Both the regular fries and the Cajun Fries were good. I’d give the edge to the Cajun Fries, but you can’t go wrong with either.
Back in the Saddle had three desserts that I normally would have tried, or at the very least taken home; Darla’s Homemade Banana Pudding, fried Apple or Peach pie with ice cream and Bits Butter Cake with Caramel Sauce. I am going to have to brave Airline Drive just to try those!
