A Bossier resident recently received a letter regarding a supposed home warranty, with Sheriff Julian C. Whittington listed as the “Lender.” The recipient contacted the telephone number provided in the letter and was told the Sheriff’s name had been included by mistake. The company identified itself as “The Home Warranty Department,” but no legitimate website or verifiable business information could be located.

These official-looking notices may reference your property, mortgage lender, or other accurate information to make the letter appear legitimate. Some may use urgent language and direct you to call a specific phone number.

Please don’t be fooled. The use of accurate property or mortgage information does not mean the notice is legitimate.

If you receive a suspicious home warranty notice:

Do not provide personal or financial information.

Do not send payment.

Do not call the number listed on the letter.

Contact your mortgage lender or warranty provider directly using a verified phone number or website.

When in doubt, stop and verify before responding.
