The Shreveport Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Brett Burdges following an investigation into the alleged theft of approximately $139,487.74 from Custom Built Cabinet & Supply.
Burdges had been employed by the company since 2021 and served as its controller, with responsibilities that included overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchases and the company’s balance sheet.
The investigation began after a company owner was contacted by American Express in August 2026 regarding suspected fraudulent charges on a business account. An internal review of the company’s financial records subsequently revealed numerous unauthorized transactions allegedly made by Burdges.
Investigators learned that Burdges had been issued an American Express Blue Card for business purposes. Records showed unauthorized transactions on that card between June 2025 and August 2026.
The investigation further revealed that Burdges allegedly opened an American Express Platinum Card under the company’s business account without authorization from the owners and used that account to make additional unauthorized purchases between February and August 2026.
Financial records provided to investigators showed unauthorized transactions on the two accounts totaling approximately $139,487.74.
Investigators were also provided text message communications between Burdges and the company’s human resources director following his termination on Aug. 11, 2026. Those messages reportedly contained statements indicating Burdges acknowledged the unauthorized charges and expressed a willingness to repay the money.
On Sept. 3, 2026, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Burdges charging him with one count of Access Device Fraud.
