OKLAHOMA CITY – The LSU Shreveport volleyball team didn’t take long to capture the program’s first-ever win.
The Pilots (1-0) swept Wayland Baptist in dominating fashion (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) in the morning game of Stars Invitational at Oklahoma City University.
Tamara Bojanic led the way with 10 kills while attacking at .214, adding 15 digs defensively.
Logan Hamilton (eight kills) recorded the program’s first-ever kill and finished second in total kills.
Other standouts included Zamariya Lyons (seven kills), Hanna Pereira (six kills, 2.5 blocks), Shreveport native Caitlin Clampitt (six kills), and Farah Helmy (32 assists, seven digs, three kills).
The Pilots fell in their second contest 3-1 to Evangel (Mo.) later Friday. LSUS battled through a tight first set before answering back to even the match at a set apiece, but a lopsided third set proved too much to overcome as Evangel pulled away down the stretch to post a 26-24, 20-25, 25-12, 25-19 victory.
Clampitt was the standout for LSU Shreveport, posting a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs.
In its last match of the weekend, LSUS pushed host Oklahoma City in every set but couldn’t close the gap, falling 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 in the final contest of the Stars Invite.
The Pilots travel to tournaments in Kentucky and New Orleans the next two weekends, then play their first home matches Sept. 11-12 against Texas College.
