The Shreveport Police Department is investigating an accidental shooting involving the handling of a firearm.
On Aug. 9, 2026, officers responded to Willis-Knighton North after a male arrived with a gunshot wound to the leg. The injury was determined to be non-life-threatening.
Investigators learned the shooting occurred at Tiffany Square Apartments while another individual was handling a firearm.
According to investigators, the individual removed the magazine and attempted to ensure the weapon was unloaded. While manipulating the firearm, he pulled the trigger and the weapon discharged, striking the victim.
The injured individual was transported to the hospital for treatment and remained in stable condition.
Officers recovered the firearm believed to have been involved. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
The Shreveport Police Department reminded the public that firearms must be handled with extreme care. Removing a magazine does not necessarily mean a firearm is unloaded.
The department encouraged firearm owners to visually and physically inspect the chamber, keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction and keep their finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
The department continues to encourage responsible firearm ownership and safe handling practices to prevent avoidable injuries and deaths.
