A Shreveport police officer is expected to make a full recovery after suffering multiple injuries while responding to a domestic violence call June 22.
Officers were dispatched to the 10100 block of Trail Ridge Drive for a reported disorderly person. Upon arrival, they determined the incident involved an intoxicated man and a female victim who showed signs of abuse, according to the Shreveport Police Department.
As an officer attempted to separate the individuals and speak with the victim, the suspect allegedly repeatedly interrupted the investigation and refused commands. Police said the suspect became increasingly aggressive before the officer attempted to take him into custody.
During the arrest, the suspect allegedly fought with the officer, struck him multiple times and headbutted him in the face. The officer suffered a broken nose, lacerations inside his mouth and other injuries.
Despite being injured, the officer was able to take the suspect into custody.
The suspect faces three counts of domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, resisting an officer with force or violence and second-degree battery.
The Shreveport Police Department said domestic violence incidents can place victims, children, neighbors and responding officers at risk when violence escalates.
