The LHSAA softball playoff brackets released Wednesday have lots of local flavor, including one District 1-5A confrontation among four first-round games being played today, three in Shreveport.
Evangel, seeded 14th in Select Division I, hosts 19th-seeded Byrd at 5:30.
Captain Shreve, 15th in Select DI, is home today at 5:30 against No. 18 Edna Karr.
Caddo Magnet is 16th in Select DI, playing at home today at 6 against No. 17 John Ehret.
The other local team competing today is 22nd-seeded North Caddo, visiting No. 14 Rosepine at 6 o’clock.
Calvary is the top seed in Select D3 and has a first-round bye. The Lady Cavaliers are highly ranked in every national prep poll with a 33-1 record, taking aim at a sixth consecutive state crown.
Other local playoff teams are Airline, Booker T. Washington, Loyola, Northwood and Plain Dealing.
Airline, seeded 13th in Non-Select Division I, hosts 20th-seeded West Ouachita Friday at 5.
Northwood, No. 24 in Non-Select DI, goes to ninth-seeded Ouachita Friday at 5.
Loyola is home Friday at 4 when the 10th seeded Lady Flyers host No. 23 Frederick A. Douglass in a Select D2 first-rounder.
Plain Dealing is the 12th seed in Non-Select D4 and hosts No. 21 Lakeview Friday at 6.
BTW, 20th in Select D2, goes to No. 13 David Thibodaux in a game not yet scheduled per the LHSAA website.
