Centenary’s undefeated lacrosse team has its Senior Day Saturday morning on campus, while the Diamond Gents baseball team is home this weekend and the men’s golf team hosts the annual Hal Sutton Invitational next Monday and Tuesday.
LACROSSE: The Gents remained unbeaten as they hammered Heidelberg University 15-3 on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Atkins Field.
The Gents (8-0) led 9-1 at halftime and cruised to the win as they improved to 4-0 at home. The Student Princes fell to 3-3 overall. Tuesday was the first meeting between the two programs.
Sophomore Noah Walsh scored a game-high five goals to lead the Gents and sophomore Gamble Harvill was right behind him with four. Junior Ethan Hewett and freshman Gavin Ferrington each scored a pair and freshman Andrew Hayden and sophomore Cooper Harris each scored one. Walsh had four assists and Hewett had three while freshman Aiden McQuat and junior Dominic Ogier each tallied one.
Freshman Jake Huff made 12 saves before yielding to freshman Ethan Young for the final 2:26. Gavin Ferrington went 9-11 on face offs, freshman Sean Nadler was 7-8, and senior Chris Masterson was 2-3.
The Gents will welcome Spalding University to Atkins Field on Saturday at 11 a.m. for Senior Day. Centenary’s senior class will be honored in a pregame ceremony at approximately 10:30.
BASEBALL: Centenary lost its series at Hendrix last weekend in Conway, Ark., falling 7-4 in Sunday’s series finale after splitting a doubleheader on Friday. The Diamond Gents (8-10, 3-6 SCAC) and Warriors (11-5, 6-3 SCAC) were even after the twinbill, with Hendrix recording a 12-2 win in eight innings before Centenary rebounded with a 13-7 victory.
Centenary is back home this weekend in league play to face LeTourneau (9-8, 7-5 SCAC). The series begins on Friday at 6 with a single game and concludes on Saturday with a 1 o’clock twinbill.
SOFTBALL: The Ladies (6-9, 6-3 SCAC) took two of three at home last week against Hendrix in league play, sweeping a pair on Thursday (4-3, 6-2) before falling in Friday’s series finale 7-4. Friday’s loss was the first at home this season for the Ladies in six outings.
Centenary is on the road this weekend in conference action against LeTourneau (4-12, 3-9 SCAC). The series opener is set for 6 on Friday and concludes on Saturday with a double dip at noon.
MEN’S GOLF: The Gents will play host to their annual home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational, next Monday and Tuesday at The Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City.
The Gents shot a 96-over par 936 to finish in 11th place on Tuesday at the Fabric Solutions and Technologies Crossing Creeks Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University at Crossing Creeks Country Club in Longview, Texas.
The Gents shot a 24-over par 304 in the final round, their lowest of all three rounds of the event, at the par 70, 6,639-yard course as they opened their spring season. California Lutheran won the team title at 13-over par 853, finishing 22 shots ahead of runner-up and tournament host LeTourneau (+35 – 875).
Junior Aubrey Snell, a former Parkway star, was the Gents’ top finisher as he shot a 7-over par 217 to finish seventh. Snell was tied for 25th place after Monday’s action in which he shot a 9-over par 149 (76-73) but fired up the leaderboard on Tuesday after a 2-under 68 – his lowest round of the season. The top 10 finish was Snell’s third of the season.
Senior Jeffrey Borchert recorded Centenary’s second-best finish as he shot a 28-over par 238 to finish in 56th place. Borchert shot a 27-over 167 (83-84) on Monday and was excellent on Tuesday as he fired a 1-over par 71 – his lowest round of the week.
Freshman Mason Wiener tied for 57th place at 29-over par 239 (81-76-82), and freshman Trey Bishop finished in 63rd place (+34 -244) after rounds of 77-82-85). Senior Colton Mayer finished 77th (+51 – 261) after rounds of 88-90-83 and senior Parker Christensen finished in a tie for 81st place at 72-over par 282 (88-95-99).
