A Caddo Parish jury deliberated nearly two hours on March 4 before convicting a Shreveport man of home invasion and cruelty to an infirm person in connection with the assault and robbery of a 91-year-old woman last summer.
The eight-woman, four-man jury in the courtroom of John D. Mosely Jr. unanimously found Kendrell Quinte Thomas, 24, guilty of forcing his way into the Southern Hills home of the elderly widow and attacking her.
Authorities said the victim was discovered by concerned relatives early on July 2, 2025, bound with wire and rope inside a closet.
According to testimony, the victim said Thomas forced his way into the home, knocked her down and dragged her by her feet through multiple rooms while searching for money and jewelry. She told investigators he struck her in the head, then tied her up and placed her in a closet.
Detectives later located surveillance footage from nearby homes and a bank showing a man cashing one of the victim’s stolen checks. Investigators identified Thomas as the person who cashed the check and arrested him at his residence.
During the arrest, authorities said they recovered $1,800 in cash, items belonging to the victim, clothing matching what was seen in surveillance video, a backpack believed to have been used during the crime and a ski mask.
Thomas is scheduled to return to court March 18 for sentencing. For the home invasion conviction, he faces between one and 30 years at hard labor without the possibility of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. The cruelty to persons with infirmities conviction carries a potential sentence of one to 10 years.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ross Owen, while Thomas was represented by the Caddo Parish Indigent Defenders Office. The case is docketed as No. 409895.
