Following an earlier announcement on Jan. 12 regarding updated gate access hours at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery’s Botanical Gardens, the institution is reminding the public of its closure policies and strict no-photography rules with a follow up post on social media on Feb. 11 after continued incidents involving unauthorized entry and confrontations.
The gallery’s gardens are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and open Wednesday through Sunday from sunrise to sunset, with “sunset” defined as the precise published time of day. Officials said that, despite warnings and recent arrests, people have continued to enter the grounds outside of posted hours, leading to safety concerns and enforcement actions.
The reminder follows a Jan. 12 social media announcement that public gate access hours were revised in response to increased confrontations and safety issues on the property. In that announcement, the gallery outlined changes to the schedules of several garden gates and urged visitors to follow posted rules and interact respectfully with staff and law enforcement.
In its latest message, the gallery emphasized that closed signs and locked gates indicate the property is not open, and urged visitors not to climb or tamper with fences. It also reiterated that no photography — including pictures, images or videos taken optically, electronically or digitally — is allowed anywhere on the grounds. Officials encouraged the public to respect the clearly posted signage and comply with law enforcement when visiting the property.
