Downtown Shreveport will transform into a corridor of celebration this weekend as the city hosts the 38th Annual African American History Parade on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The historic procession is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., starting and ending at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. This long-standing tradition celebrates the rich heritage and contributions of the African American community in Shreveport and beyond.
To ensure the safety of both participants and spectators, city officials will close the staging area and the entire parade route to all vehicle traffic beginning at 9 a.m. The parade will follow a loop through the downtown area:
-
Start: Shreveport Municipal Auditorium
-
Path: Common Street to Milam Street
-
Turn: Edwards Street to Texas Street
-
Return: Back to Common Street, concluding at the Municipal Auditorium
Public safety remains a top priority for the event. While the streets will be closed to the general public, the Shreveport Fire Department and emergency medical services will maintain constant, full access to the interior of the parade route to respond to any emergencies.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to arrive early, utilize alternate routes to avoid the downtown core during the closure window, and join the community in marking this meaningful cultural milestone.
