In Search of Good Food: At a brewery, is that possible?

Not every good food find will be in an unexpected place, but this is definitely one of those.

The Seventh Tap East Bank, 525 Barksdale Blvd., Bossier City, has been opened almost two years. It is the second location in the Shreveport-Bossier. The original is located at 2640 Linwood Ave., Shreveport.

Seventh Tap joined the craft beer and eatery boom in what Bossier City bills as the East Bank. It also defies the norm when it comes to diversity on its menu, essentially having only three different menu items. They feature a smash burger, fries and wings.

With only these few items they had better be good or the business would not survive. Luckily for us they are very good at what they do.

The smash burger comes in a single, double or triple, depending on how hungry you are. I generally go for the double. It keeps the meat-to-bun ratio the way I like it, but they have different options so all of us can be happy. I have been here many times over these last couple of years and have ordered the double smash burger every single time. It is just the right amount of juiciness without being too messy, and whatever is in that special sauce, I could eat with a spoon. I wonder if they’d tell us what’s in it??

I must admit, I had never ordered the fries until last month, knowing the burger was enough for me, but when a friend of mine ordered them, I had to join in. I will never make the mistake of not getting some again. The fries come “plain,” with a Cajun seasoning, or with chili, cheese and onions. They also offer fries topped with bacon, cheese and ranch or buffalo style with chicken, cheese buffalo sauce, ranch and chives.

If you are ambitious, like I was Saturday, you can get the Tap Room Fries, topped with all the smash burger ingredients except the bun. Everyone at my table was not pleased with me knowing there was no way I was going to share. I’m not sure I can give a menu item a stronger compliment than that.

As you might be able to guess, I have not spent much time getting strong wings. My exposure to them has always been when I get one or two off my friends’ orders. Every time I do, I kick myself for not getting an order myself. They come in boneless or traditional, with a variety of sauces. They have always been good, and I have some friends that swear by these wings, saying they can compete with anyone in town.

Seventh Tap is of course known for its craft beer. The EMB in particular is served at other restaurants on the East Bank; however my expertise on craft beer lacks any degree of knowledge, so we will just stick with the search for good food.

Each week we will explore different places around the Shreveport-Bossier area, in search of good food. If you have a favorite place, send me those suggestions and maybe it will end up a new find here, giving others a chance to share in your restaurant favorites.
