Shreveport Police warn of squatting risks amid cold weather

The Shreveport Police Department is urging residents to report suspected squatting activity as colder, wet weather increases the risk of structure fires in vacant homes. Officers noted that individuals seeking warmth may enter unoccupied houses and use unsafe heating methods, creating hazards for both the structures and surrounding neighborhoods.

Residents who observe signs of squatting or improper burning within city limits are asked to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-7300.

Police also encouraged anyone without stable housing to seek assistance from local shelters and warming centers during periods of freezing temperatures and rain.
