Nobody confessed to dressing up, but Halloween had its moments last Friday

When many high school football coaches around the state saw that Halloween 2025 was on a Friday, a lot of games got shifted to Thursday night.  A lot.

Locally only five games were played on Halloween. A dozen took place a night earlier.

What did Shreveport-Bossier coaches do for the Halloween holiday?

COY BROTHERTON, Parkway: “We took the kids to a Halloween party with their friends.  Broox dressed up as Happy Gilmore and Blair and her friends were chipmunks.  They went trick or treating and I stayed inside and watched Game 6 of the World Series.

“I may have taken a nap at some point, too.”

MATTHEW SEWELL, Haughton: “In the past I’ve always gone to another football game when we didn’t play. Last week, we had all my family and some friends over at the house and went trick or treating. Different priorities when you have a little one!

“When I was 7 years old, I dressed up as (Boston Red Sox World Series pitching hero) Curt Schilling. I had a bloody sock and everything.”

STEPHEN DENNIS, Benton: “We went trick or treating with my kiddos and some family friends!

“My oldest son is getting to the age where he isn’t as interested in the trick or treating stuff as much, so it was nice to focus on seeing the kids be kids for one night.

“It was also the first Halloween that my daughter, who is three, really kind of understood what trick-or-treating was! It was really fun watching her as well.”

Airline played Byrd on Halloween, so it was a work night for the Vikings.

JUSTIN SCOGIN, Airline: “When we are not playing it is 100 percent trick or treating with the kids. My wife does a great job making that stuff fun and making sure they’re all dressed up and stuff. Those few times are also my best memories of Halloween.”

It turned into a work night for Northwood’s coach. The Falcons played Thursday, but their next opponent, Loyola, teed it up Friday night in Stonewall in a battle of District 1-4A unbeatens with North DeSoto. The Griffins won a very competitive game, 63-49, but the Flyers spooked some Falcons’ fans.

AUSTIN BROWN, Northwood: “We hung out in the neighborhood, handing out candy, and watched the North DeSoto/Loyola game.

“We had 20+ guys in the garage watching the game. They were very surprised at how good Loyola was. I was not. They told me to go home and break down film.”
