On October 17, 2025, just after 5:00 p.m., Shreveport Police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of
Lyon Avenue in reference to an assault and battery. Upon arrival, officers found members of the Shreveport Fire Department on scene rendering aid to a 65-year-old male victim who had sustained a large facial laceration and was bleeding heavily.
Through witness statements, officers learned that the victim had reportedly been approached by a male
suspect, later identified as Ashton Slocum, who asked him for a cigarette and food. Without provocation,
Slocum allegedly began striking the victim in the face.
An off-duty SPD officer observed a man matching the suspect’s description in the parking lot of Brookshire’s Grocery nearby and detained him until on-duty officers arrived.
Slocum was arrested and charged with one count of Second Degree Battery and one count of Battery of the Infirm due to the victim’s age.
