The Shreveport Police Department has gathered new information regarding the shooting that resulted in the death of Martaevion Loston.
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Shreveport Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at a park located in the 500 block of East 79th Street at Line Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Loston had sustained gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced deceased.
Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit immediately launched an intensive investigation, working around the clock to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Through their efforts, detectives learned that Loston was the first person to fire a weapon. A 15-year-old juvenile then returned fire, fatally wounding Loston.
The juvenile has been charged with possession of a firearm by a juvenile and possession of a firearm inside a city park. Detectives are coordinating with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office to determine whether homicide charges will be pursued.
Footage from the Real Time Crime Center was instrumental in solving this case. The video evidence confirmed that Loston fired first, helping investigators quickly establish the sequence of events.
The Shreveport Police Department urges parents and guardians to take an active role in educating their children about the dangers and consequences of possessing or using firearms. Juveniles and firearms do not mix.
