James Albert Frantz, longtime Shreveport resident, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, at the age of 90.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025, at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans. The funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Father Raney Johnson. Interment will follow immediately at Forest Park Cemetery, West.
James was the son of Earl Lockard Frantz and Rose Brown Frantz. He attended Aquinas High School in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and later joined the U.S. Air Force, serving with the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project at Barksdale Air Force Base. After his service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Louisiana Tech University and a master’s degree from Centenary College.
He spent 35 years working at Schumpert Medical Center, where he served as CFO. He was known for his commitment to his work and his humble nature.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elaine Malloy Frantz; his parents; and his brother, Brownie Frantz.
He is survived by his eight children: James M. Frantz, Gregory Earl Frantz, Patrick Joseph Frantz, Mary Rose Frantz Watson, Timothy Gerard Frantz, Charles Albert Frantz, John Edward Frantz, and Margaret Jewel Frantz.
He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren—Rachael Bird, James Frantz, William Frantz, Erin Zopolsky, Caitlin Aurand, Christian Frantz, Audrey Furnas, Sarah Hutchings, Patrick John Frantz, Tori Blevins, Tanner Blevins, Tara Blevins, Zackary Watson, Madalyn Watson, Savannah Frantz, and John Patrick Frantz—as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
In his free time, James enjoyed antiquing, golfing, and being with his family. With eight children, his favorite and most time consuming hobby was parenting. James will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Pallbearers are James Frantz, Gregory Frantz, Patrick Frantz, Timothy Frantz, Charles Frantz, John Frantz, and Jeff Watson.
Serving as honorary pallbearer is Frank Charles Malloy.
