GRAMBLING – State funding is cited by Grambling State University as the impetus launching the first indoor practice facility on a north Louisiana college campus.
Without many specifics as to the funding, Grambling announced the project Wednesday and unveiled the design for its indoor Athletic Training and Performance Facility,
“a bold investment made possible through state funding that underscores the University’s commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience, advancing year-round training, and carrying forward the storied legacy of Tiger Athletics.”
The announcement slated an Oct. 10 groundbreaking for construction of the building to be located next to Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium and presumably adjacent to the field house that is the headquarters for the Tigers’ football program.
The structure includes a 70yard turf field in a climate-controlled training space, and dedicated areas for sports medicine, strength development, and team preparation, including what was described as “advanced lighting and video systems for film review and performance analysis.”
The announcement did not include a project cost or square footage of the building. It did feature excited top brass from the university.
“This design concept is more than an idea — it’s a promise,” said Dr. Trayvean Scott, GSU’s vice president for intercollegiate athletics. “We are preparing champions who will carry forward the legacy of Grambling State. This facility is designed with them in mind, ensuring our student-athletes have the tools to compete and excel in every season.”
“Supporting our student-athletes means investing in every dimension of their journey — athletic, academic, and personal,” said Grambling State President Martin Lemelle Jr. “This facility embodies that vision. It is more than a space to train; it is a commitment to their well-being, their preparation, and their legacy. At Grambling State, we are not simply building for today — we are creating pathways that ensure future generations of student-athletes have the resources, opportunities, and support to thrive at the highest level.”
