The Shreveport Fire Department was recognized by Mayor Tom Arceneaux and the Shreveport City Council with two Fire Chief Commendations for the outstanding service and bravery of two of their members on Tuesday, July 8.
Chief of Fire Prevention Mike Hood received special recognition for prestigious state and national awards from the VFW, naming him Explosive Ordnance Disposal Tech of the Year. Chief Hood’s decades of experience and leadership as a Bomb Squad member and Commander exemplify the highest standards of service and dedication.
In addition, Captain Clint Rushing, Fire Engineer Austin Harrell, and Firefighter Josh Wilcher of Engine 7 were honored for their heroic actions on June 7. Their swift response—scaling a wooden fence and removing burglar bars to rescue a trapped citizen from a rapidly growing house fire—demonstrated true courage and commitment to saving lives.
Chief Clarence Reese summed it up best:“It is always a wonderful day when we have firefighters recognized for their exemplary service and commitment to excellence.”
