State tournament spots at stake today as Benton, Calvary host quarterfinal softball games

Does Caddo-Bossier prep softball have staying power? Benton and Calvary hope to reach next weekend’s LHSAA state tournament by dispatching visitors in quarterfinal contests today.

Calvary (34-1), the top seed in Select Division III and aiming for its fourth straight state title, hosts No. 9 Bunkie (18-11) at 5 p.m.

Benton (27-5) is home, also with a 5 o’clock first pitch, as the No. 2 team in Non-Select Division I going against seventh-seeded Walker (21-8).

After earning byes in the first round , Benton and Calvary notched homefield victories Tuesday in the regional round. Calvary, averaging more than 10 runs per game this season, hammered Fisher 16-1 in three innings while Benton rallied past Destrehan 4-2.
