The numbers for Calvary’s Tyrone “T.J.” Jamison are impressive, though maybe not eye-popping incredible. But you’ll have to look past those numbers to truly find out what made Jamison so special for the Cavaliers in the 2024-25 boys basketball season.
“He was the engine for us,” said Calvary coach Vic Morris. “He was going to bring it every single day in practice and games. You’d always hear his voice and know he was going to play hard. He’s tough on himself and he is going to hold his teammates accountable.”
Jamison, who averaged 15.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists as the Cavs made another run to the state championship game, is the Outstanding Player on the Shreveport-Bossier Journal’s All-Metro team. He also netted the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 2A Outstanding Player award announced Wednesday.
“On the court, we counted on him to score the ball and led us in assists, but he also defended as well,” Morris said. “He’s always on the first or second-best player on the opposing team.”
But perhaps the most impressive part of it all is this – he’s just a sophomore. He just happens to play like a senior.
“We asked a lot of him just being a sophomore, but he delivered on every challenge,” Morris said. “He always came up big in the big games.”
According to 24/7 Sports, Jamison is the No. 14 overall recruit for the Class of 2027 and the No. 1 point guard as a four-star prospect.
Jamison leads the Journal’s fourth annual All-Metro team, chosen in consultation with local coaches and veteran observers. It is a compilation of five top Shreveport-Bossier standouts and a “Best of the Rest” group of players who gained serious consideration for the quintet.
Jamison is joined by Calvary teammate Bubba Strong, Bossier’s Kerel Dean, Huntington’s Peyton Parker and Woodlawn’s Brandon Henderson, also SBJ All-Metro in football.
Coach of the Year is Bossier’s Justin Collins, whose team was 6-10 at one point in the season before rattling off 14 straight as it reached the state championship game before losing to Wossman by six points. It is his second All-Metro Coach of the Year award in his three seasons as the Bearkats’ coach.
