SPD seat belt safety checkpoint results in 200+ citations

The Shreveport Police Department conducted a seat belt safety checkpoint from 12pm to 7pm on Tuesday, March 25 in the 3200 block of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. The primary goal of this checkpoint was to ensure compliance with state occupant protection laws for both adults and children. However, officers also identified and addressed other safety violations.

Throughout the operation, officers screened 1,767 vehicles, resulting in 210 citations. These included:

• 47 seat belt violations
• 5 child restraint violations
• 95 motor vehicle inspection violations
• 21 vehicle registration violations
• Multiple other license and insurance violations

This initiative is especially important as Caddo Parish currently leads the state of Louisiana in fatal accidents for 2025. It is the hope of the SPD that such initiatives will encourage safer driving practices in the community.

The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to the safety of roadways and will be following this checkpoint with a DWI checkpoint later this week.
