SFD tackles fire in the 7000 block of Jewella Ave.

The Caddo Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a fire in the 7000 Block of Jewella Avenue, at the Encore Events Rental Center, on March 21, at approximately 4:48pm. The call, made by a citizen passing by the area, indicated visible smoke and flames coming from the exterior of the building.

Engine 15, the first arriving unit on scene, arrived at 4:50pm and observed smoke and flames along the exterior walls of the building. Crews found several garbage cans and debris that appeared to be on fire, in direct contact with the structure’s exterior.

Shreveport firefighters quickly initiated a coordinated and aggressive attack on the flames. The department’s quick response prevented the fire from spreading into the inside of the structure, where a heavy fire load of rental equipment posed a significant threat to the building and its contents. The fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes.

A total of seven Shreveport Fire Department units, staffed by 18 firefighters and support personnel, worked together to ensure a swift resolution to the incident. The collaborative effort of these teams was crucial in preventing the fire from causing more extensive damage.

The cause and origin of the fire are currently under investigation by the Shreveport Fire Arson Investigation Division. While the fire was contained to the exterior of the building, fire officials are diligently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese, Jr. was on scene and commended the quick response of the department’s crews, saying, “Our firefighters did an exceptional job in swiftly containing the fire and preventing any further damage to the structure. Their training and teamwork were vital in protecting both the building and the surrounding area.”

No injuries were reported, and no occupants were inside the building at the time of the fire.
