The Centenary gymnastics program will host the annual Midwest Independent Conference Championships on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. inside the Gold Dome.
The Ladies will be joined by Illinois State, Southeast Missouri State, and Texas Woman’s University. Centenary finished fifth in the MIC Championship last season. Centenary is serving as host for the event for the first time since 2019.
Illinois State, an NCAA Division 1 program, enters the meet 42nd in the latest Road to Nationals rankings, TWU, a Division II school, is 48th, SEMO (D1) is 59th, and the Ladies (D3) are 80th.
The Ladies’ highest team score this season was a 192.175 against Fisk on March 8 at home on Centenary’s Senior Night. Centenary topped 190.00 for the first this season with a total that is the Ladies’ highest since recording a 190.325 last season against TWU. The Maroon and White scored 192.00 or better for the first time since recording a 192.475 on March 11, 2023 at home versus Lindenwood.
The Ladies earned season-best scores on vault (47.875) and bars (48.150) against Fisk, tied their season-high on floor (48.100), and recorded their second-best score on beam (48.050).
“It’s a great honor and privilege to host the pinnacle meet for our conference,” said Centenary coach Dr. Meg Crowley. ”The MIC Championship meet is always an exciting meet to watch. The teams are highly competitive, and it’s truly about who shows up with their A game that day.
“We have grown and improved so much as a team from meet one up until this point. We’ve been working on hard on staying in the moment and focusing on the process. If we can do that, I know that we will have a great meet,” she said.
“It’s even more exciting because this isn’t the final stop for us this season as a team. We will be hosting Nationals here as well in 3 weeks, so today is really just another stepping stone towards that meet.”
The Ladies will host the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championships April 11-13.
