SFD responds to vacant apartment building on Grimmett Dr.

The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to reports of an apartment fire in the 2000 block of Grimmett Dr. at the Northwood II Apartment Complex on Wednesday, March 5, at approximately 10:06am. The 911 call was made by a Shreveport Police Officer totheCaddo 911 Dispatch Center that an apartment unit was on fire with heavy smoke and flames visible.

Upon arrival at approximately 10:10AM, the first fire crew from Station #4, led by Captain Matt Richardson (Engine #4), encountered heavy smoke along with flames visible coming from the window of the apartment unit. Firefighters immediately initiated a coordinated attack to suppress the fire. The fire was placed under control within five minutes of the first crew’s arrival, with 12 fire units, comprising 23 firefighters and support personnel, responding to the scene. Fortunately, this apartment fire did not result in any injuries to Shreveport firefighters or citizens of Shreveport.

The cause and origin of the fire are currently under investigation by the Shreveport Fire Investigation Office.
