Recently Shreveport Fire Chief of Fire Prevention Bureau Mike Hood was recognized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars for the VFW National Explosive Ordinance Disposal Safety Award. Chief Hood has been a member of SFD for 29 years. During his tenure he has held the roles of Firefighter, Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Bomb Technician, Bomb Squad Commander, and ATF Explosives Detection K-9 Handler of his late partner, (ATF Agent #853) Jude.
As an ATF K-9 handler he was one of only 2 certified teams at that time in the state of Louisiana with the Explosives Detection K-9 designation. Jude and Chief Hood executed over 220 missions together throughout the United States, providing coverage and protection for high profile details including but not limited to: NFL Super Bowls, MLB World Series, NBA All-Star Games, NCAA Final Four Games, Presidential details, and numerous others.
The only thing that is more impressive than his achievements and years of service is his love for his family and faith. SFD is proud to have Chief Hood as a member of SFD, and they thank him for his service to the city, state, and country.
