Shreveport Police officers responded to what started as a simple 911 hang-up call at 557 Sally Ann Drive but quickly turned into something straight out of a reality TV show on Thursday, Feb. 27.
It all began when Tasheena Bryant spotted a 2020 Nissan Versa and decided it was hers. There was just one problem—Charlesetta Casey was sitting in it. Not one to let that minor detail stop her, Bryant took matters into her own hands, literally, by opening the car door, reaching across Casey, and trying to turn the car off and snatch the keys. Predictably, Casey did not take kindly to the unexpected game of “Grand Theft Auto: Front Yard Edition,” and the two ended up wrestling in the yard.
After the impromptu wrestling match, Bryant returned to her own home at 553 Sally Ann Drive, and Casey went inside hers—but not for a glass of water and some deep breaths. Instead, she grabbed a 9mm handgun and marched back outside, ready to make a point. She later told officers that Bryant had a knife in her doorway and, wanting to “scare her,” she fired a shot into the air. Where that bullet landed? Nobody knows. NASA may have been notified.
Post-Miranda, the two had very different interpretations of events. Bryant admitted she opened Casey’s car door and tried to take the keys, insisting she thought the car was hers. She also admitted to opening Casey’s front door but promised she didn’t step inside. As for the knife? She said she grabbed it after Casey announced she was going to get a gun, which is not really the time to grab a knife.
Meanwhile, Casey confessed to firing the shot but swore she was just trying to scare Bryant—not actually hit her. Unfortunately, bullets don’t come with a “just kidding” button.
In the end, Bryant was booked for Unauthorized Entry, and Casey was charged with Illegal Use of a Weapon.
